A BRADFORD man allegedly assaulted "Cyrus the Great" and falsely claimed "I am a South Yorkshire Police officer".
Mohammed Rashid, 42, of Devonshire Terrace in the Manningham area, was due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates' Court today to face two charges.
These were: assault by beating and making a statement suggesting you were a police constable.
Both alleged offences relate to an incident in Sheffield on September 11 last year.
Rashid allegedly assaulted someone called "Cyrus the Great" and also allegedly falsely declared "I am a South Yorkshire Police officer", with the intent to deceive someone into thinking he was a special constable or member of the force.
The case was originally set to be heard on January 19 at Sheffield Magistrates' Court.
But it was adjourned until today due to a misinterpretation of Rashid's bail conditions.
Rashid did not appear at court that day and the defence team explained this was because he thought he could not enter Sheffield at all.
But the court clarified that Rashid's bail conditions meant he could not enter Sheffield except to attend court or a pre-arranged appointment with solicitor.
The reason for this was to prevent interference with witnesses or otherwise obstruct the course of justice, whether in relation to the defendant or any other person, to prevent offending.
Rashid was remanded on conditional bail until today and ordered to attend by the court.
