A WOMAN faced a hefty fine for dodging rail fares, travelling from Manchester Victoria to Bradford Interchange.
Jagdeep Kaur Singh Bhaker, 25, from Preston failed to purchase a £13.80 rail ticket at Manchester Victoria On Thursday, 29 July 2021 and was unable to provide a ticket when asked at Bradford Interchange.
When asked for a ticket, Bhaker claimed that she did not have the money or means to pay for the ticket.
She was sent a letter, requesting her to pay the sum of £13.80 but after this letter was dismissed another was sent with a Fixed Penalty Notice.
Bhaker was fined £220.00, had to pay £13.80 in compensation, to pay a surcharge to fund victims services of £34.00 and to pay costs of £150.00.
In total she was fined £417.80 for failing to pay £13.80.
It is an offence under section 5(3)(a) of the Regulation of Railways Act 1889 for one to travel on the rail without purchasing a ticket.
