PLANS to add an outdoor terrace to a Bradford restaurant have been refused after planning officers described it as "poor architecture."

An application for a first floor, outdoor seating area to the side of Istanbul Restaurant on Leeds Road was submitted to Bradford Council at the start of the year.

Plans for the terrace, which will be above a parking area, show that it would have seating for around 40 diners.

Planning officers say the building retains a "traditional appearance" and add: "Due to the design, form, scale and the proposed materials to be used for the raised area, the proposed raised area will be highly prominent within the street scene and poorly integrated into the built form of the existing building.

"As such the raised area will be a visually obtrusive addition that does not maintain the character of the existing building or that of the wider street scene.

"(The planned scheme) is an unattractive development that is the result of poor architecture and layout. The proposal will fails to add to the overall quality of the area, not just in the short term but over the lifetime of the development."
