RETROSPECTIVE plans to turn a former video library shop into a five bedroom house have been submitted, with its layout being slightly unusual.

The application seeks to get approval for the work already done at Hope House in Westgate, Cleckheaton.

The building, previously used as a shop, has been converted into a residential property by applicant Hassan Shirzad without the required permission, with the work beginning six months ago.

The 3,503 sq ft property, if approved, would feature an open plan living space on the ground floor, with a large living area and a kitchen-diner at the rear of the property.

The house's sole bathroom would be accessed via the kitchen, and occupiers would have to walk through the kitchen and living space to the stair to then go upstairs to their bedrooms.

On the first floor would be a large landing space, a study, and five bedrooms - but only one would be big enough to house a double bed according to the floor plans.

In the basement would be space for two vehicles in a garage space, a storeroom and an area for bin storage, with a further three car parking spaces in the driveway, and a very small garden space.

Public consultation on the plans is open until March 29, with a target date for a decision set out by Kirklees Council as April 15.

If the application is rejected, any changes already made in the six months since the unauthorised building work began will have to be reversed.
