A Bradford man who acted as political co-ordinator to murdered Benazir Bhutto was leading a protest in London today.

Arashad Barki, who witnessed the former Pakistan Prime Minister's assassination last month, is calling for an independent United Nations investigation into her death.

He claims there was no official security protection offered to Miss Bhutto at the rally in Rawalpindi where she was shot dead by a suicide bomber and he was staging a protest outside Number 10 Downing Street for the visit of the Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.

He said: "There was no security whatsoever given by the (Pakistani) Government and it is trying to hide the actual facts from the people."

Mr Barki said he has been contacting several MPs, MEPs, along with other Pakistan People's Party Leaders as he presses for an independent investigation.

Last week he travelled to the capital with Raja Iqbal Khan, Zeshan Barki and Sheriaz Akthar, who are also from Bradford, to meet Home Office Minister Vernon Coaker.

Mr Barki urged Mr Coaker to table a motion in the House of Commons, calling for an investigation by the United Nations.

He said: "Having returned from a visit to Pakistan, the majority of people did not trust Musharraf and the Government, and believe that the Government and its agencies had hand in the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, got rid of the evidence within 24 hours and came out with a unreliable report the following day."

He claims that although the Pakistani Government had sanctioned an investigation by Scotland Yard, politicians had limited the British detectives involvement in the investigation.
