ELEVEN people in court this year for speeding on Bingley Bypass have racked up more than £3,500 in fines, with five disqualified and 60 penalty points handed out in total.
The bypass (A650) is to the west of Bradford and connects the city and Shipley with Keighley in passing Bingley.
Much of the bypass has a 50mph limit, with a small stretch at 70mph, and is notorious for people speeding along it.
It was dubbed one of the district’s speeding hotspots last March, after new figures at the time revealed 374 motorists exceeded the limit on the road between November 2019 and November 2020 (not including those caught through fixed cameras).
Just under a dozen individuals have been dealt with in court so far in 2022 for speeding on the road at various points in 2021, with one offence taking place back in 2020.
Five of these people ended up being disqualified from driving, for a total of 36 months (three years), with a total of 60 penalty points issued between the 11 offenders.
They were ordered to pay £5,708 to the courts in total, made up of £3,680 in fines.
