The first episode of series 6 of Peaky Blinders paid tribute to Helen McCrory, who died in 2021 of breast cancer. 

In the first few moments of the episode, Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, finds Polly Gray has died.

Many fans are wondering what happened to Aunt Polly and how the Peaky Blinders writers ended her character in the series.

At the end of the last series, Tommy is planning to kill MP Sir Oswald Mosley. 

Sir Oswald Mosley was the Minister of the Duchy of Lancaster, the deputy to the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the Cabinet adviser to the Prime Minister of Great Britain.

He was the MP for Smethwick, the constituency bordering South Birmingham.

However, Tommy's plan is foiled and Barney Thompson, an old friend and comrade of Tommy's from World War One, is killed before he gets a chance to shoot Mosley.  

The episode ended with it being unclear who foiled the plan and Tommy in a field with a gun to his head, worried he has found a man he cannot defeat. 

In the first episode of series six, Tommy receives a call from the IRA saying they needed to keep Mosley alive. 

They admitted to killing Barney, Aberama Gold and Polly Gray in retaliation to Tommy's plotting.
