FORMER Bradford City full-back Wayne Jacobs is set to leave his role of seven years as Active Bradford chairperson at the end of May.
In this time, he has seen and delighted in how organisations, institutions and community groups have come together to work towards a vision of a district where people choose to be active every day.
Now that many true partnerships have been cemented, with a structure in place, and a district-wide strategy set by Active Bradford, Jacobs feels the time is right to make way for a new leader.
He said: “It’s been an honour to represent the district in this role and see how people can truly come together in working towards a shared goal.
“At this moment in time, physical activity and sport is at the forefront of many people’s, and perhaps just as importantly, policy-maker’s, minds in Bradford.
“The foundation has been set by our many wonderful partners across the district, paving the way for a new leader to take the sport and physical activity strategy on the next leg of its journey.”
In 2016, under the leadership of Jacobs, the first Bradford Sports Awards took place to celebrate and recognise sporting achievements from across the whole district - an inspiring event that is now an annual one.
With the Active Bradford team, Jacobs also helped to bring £9m to Bradford through the Sport England pilot, JU:MP, which focuses on improving the lives of children and young people in deprived areas of the district through physical activity.
With former Bantam Jacobs due to leave the role this May, applications for the chairperson’s role are now being accepted.
Active Bradford are also seeking new board directors with senior level experience (CEO or similar) within the marketing and communications, VCS, health, sports and youth/education sectors.
If you are excited by the prospect of utilising your skills and experience to make a difference to people’s lives in the Bradford District through sports and physical activity, Active Bradford would like to hear from you.
