An uninsured driver who injured a woman when he smashed into her car during a police chase has been jailed for 12 months.
Hasnain Kadeer had just run a red light when he collided with the Suzuki writing it off, Bradford Crown Court heard.
The driver sustained rib, chest and neck injuries. She suffered with Multiple Sclerosis and the smash had triggered her symptoms.
Kadeer, 22, of Westfield Road, Bradford, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on Allerton Road and Stony Lane, Bradford, on May 13 last year and possession of a small bag of cannabis on the same date.
The court was told that he was spotted not wearing a seatbelt by police officers on patrol at 3pm. Further checks revealed that the VW Polo he was driving was not insured.
When ordered to stop, he accelerated off, braking sharply to avoid crashing into the back of a bus.
A high speed chase then ensued in which he did 70mph in a 30 zone and overtook dangerously on a blind bend.
He then hit the Suzuki after jumping the red light, lifting the car up on to its nearside wheels.
Kadeer decamped from the smoking Polo and ran off down Cottingley Road with a police officer in pursuit.
He disappeared off down some narrow back streets but he was apprehended on Meadow Court.
He made no reply and was escorted back to the scene of the collision when a small bag of cannabis was found in his car.
The court heard he was driving uninsured and unlicensed, although those offences were not on the magistrates’ court sending sheet.
Saf Salam said in mitigation that Kadeer had no previous convictions.
The offences were nine months ago and he had not troubled the courts since.
Mr Salam said his client found it difficult to engage with people and that had made things difficult for the probation service when preparing his report.
Kadeer was unemployed and supported by his family, Mr Salam said,
Recorder Tom Little QC labelled it “a very significant piece of dangerous driving” in which a woman driving perfectly properly was injured and her car written off.
He said Kadeer’s probation report made for “grim reading,” and there did not seem to be a realistic prospect of rehabilitation at the moment.
Kadeer was jailed for 12 months and banned from driving for two years and until he takes an extended retest.
