A FURTHER weather warning has been issued for Bradford, as the district braces itself for two storms set to hit over the next three days.
The new yellow warning, for Storm Eunice, covers the entire district and is in place from midnight on Friday until 6pm that day, warning of “very strong winds”.
The Met Office is warning of 60 to 70 miles per hour gusts, with some reaching as high as 80mph on Friday, with the risk of snow and blizzard conditions in some areas.
It comes hot on the heels of Storm Dudley, which is set to hit at 3pm tomorrow (Wednesday) with that yellow weather warning remaining in place until 6am on Thursday.
An amber warning has also been issued for Storm Dudley from 4pm tomorrow until midnight, but this misses the Bradford district.
The new warning, for Storm Eunice on Friday, warns of “a period of very strong winds that could cause significant disruption”.
The Met Office said: “There is a small chance that flying debris will result in a danger to life, with fallen trees, damage to buildings and homes, roofs blown off and power lines brought down.
“There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.
“Where damaging winds occur, there is a chance that long interruptions to power supplies and other services may occur.
“There is a small chance that roads, bridges and railway lines could close, with long delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights.”
The Chief Forecaster added: “Extremely strong winds may develop over southwest England early on Friday, before spreading north and east during the morning.
“It is not yet clear where within the warning area the strongest winds will be but gusts of 60 to 70mph are possible over a reasonably large area with a small chance of a brief period of gusts reaching 80mph even inland. Coastal winds are likely to be the strongest.
“In addition to the wind, there is the potential for a period of snow and perhaps blizzard conditions, most likely over northern England, parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and north Wales.
“However, this is very dependent on the track of the weather system and most places will see heavy rain instead.”
Currently, 24mph winds are forecast for Bradford, with gusts of up 46mph, on Friday. Tomorrow, gusts could top 50mph as winds batter the district.
The Storm Eunice warning area covers the entirety of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Storm Dudley’s stretches from mid-Scotland all the way down to just below Birmingham. The amber warning covers England from North Yorkshire upwards, and areas of southern Scotland and the top of Northern Ireland
