Police are warning elderly people to be on their guard against bogus officials.

The warning comes after a man claiming to be from a water company got into the homes of two elderly women then distracted his victims, aged 94 and 77, while another man sneaked in and stole cash.

The burglaries happened between 4pm and 5pm on Stone Hall Road in Eccleshill on Tuesday.

The bogus caller was described as white, 25 to 30-years-old, approximately 5ft 4 with short dark hair. He was wearing light-coloured trousers and a multi-coloured jumper which is thought to have a motif on the front. Detective Inspector Gerry O'Shea of Bradford North Police said: "While these types of burglary are quite rare, there are people out there who will target elderly and vulnerable people.

"We would advise you not to allow any cold-callers or strangers into your home until you are satisfied that they are genuine."

People should always check callers' ID, ring their company to confirm who they are and get support from relatives or neighbours if possible.

"A genuine caller will not object to their ID being checked," added DI O'Shea. Anyone with any information on the Eccleshill burglaries should call DI O'Shea at Bradford North Police on 0845 60 60 606.
