A 12-YEAR-OLD boy was rushed to hospital and police closed a road after a crash with a car near a school.

West Yorkshire Police was called to Kent Road, in Pudsey, just behind secondary school, Crawshaw Academy, at 8.29am today.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) was also called to the scene.

The collision involved a 12-year-old male pedestrian and a Ford Kuga, near to the road's junction with Kent Crescent.

The young boy was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) for treatment by an ambulance.

Police closed Kent Road, between its junctions with Acres Hall Avenue and Kent Crescent, and put a cordon in place, while an update on the boy's condition was pending.

People in the area reacted in shock to the news earlier today.

One local shopkeeper said: “I heard about it this morning. I think it may have been a school student that was hurt. It’s sad news.”

A local resident added: “It’s very worrying. I hope that the victim and their family are okay.”

First West Yorkshire announced its number 14 bus service was diverting via Lowton, as a result of the closure, but it had reverted to normal by 10.49am.
