LATEST NEWS: WATCH: Shocking footage shows moment men bag thousands of cigarettes in armed robbery
A MAN has been jailed after a "terrifying" armed robbery at a Bradford petrol station where a long-serving staff member was tied to a chair.
Scott Howley, 38, from Holme Wood was sentenced to five years in prison at Bradford Crown Court last Wednesday (February 2).
He was found guilty of committing an offence of robbery at the Esso Denbrook Petrol Station on Tong Street last year.
The horrifying ordeal unfolded when Howley, and another individual, entered the store on February 26, 2021.
They threatened a staff member with a knife and then Howley proceeded to tie the shop assistant to a chair with cable ties.
Both Howley and his accomplice then got away with thousands of pounds worth of stock, including cigarettes and alcohol, as well as cash.
The 38-year-old was identified following a number of specialist enquiries by forensic scientists and later arrested and charged.
Detective Constable Priscilla Haigh of Bradford CID, said: “We welcome the sentencing of Howley for this offence in which a long-serving member of staff was subjected to a terrifying ordeal.
“This was a complex investigation which relied upon the specialist work of forensic scientists in identifying Howley as one of those involved.
“Our enquiries into the offence and the other outstanding suspect remain ongoing, but we are glad that Howley has now been made to answer for his role in what took place.”
