Fed-up tenants of a housing association are signing a petition calling for better upkeep of their homes.

People living in Idle's Hampton Place, run by Bradford Community Housing Trust, say they are not getting value for their rent money.

Pensioner John Wills, 64, who is secretary of the Idle Village Tenants Association, said the housing trust was not keeping its side of the contract bargain.

"We pay our rent and in return expect a good standard of maintenance," he said. "We are not getting that, we are not getting value for money at all.

Now residents, who have complained particularly about the state of overflowing gutters, have started a petition in the hope of getting repairs work done quicker.

They will be handing it over to housing trust officers at a tenants meeting on Tuesday, February 5.

After the Telegraph & Argus contacted BCHT a spokesman said a member of its repairs team was on site cleaning out debris from the back of the property.

And added: "In the next fortnight, work will start at the rear of the building to fit new guttering, facia boards, replace perished roof felt and some tiles and carry out any further work that may be needed."

Mr Wills responded: "Despite what they've said we'll still be handing in our petition."
