A man has been jailed for more than seven years for enticing a woman into his flat and hitting and slapping her during a sustained and violent rape attack.
Christopher Davies ripped off his victim’s bra before holding her by the arms and violating her at his Bradford flat.
She was crying during the attack in which he struck her hard, slapped her, grabbed her hair and sexually abused her, Bradford Crown Court heard today.
Davies, 52, from the Fairweather Green area of Bradford, was convicted by a jury after a trial of raping the woman more than three years ago and of assault by penetration during the same attack.
Prosecutor Philip Standfast said the once bubbly and outgoing victim now suffered flashback and panic attacks.
She felt distanced from family and friends, and was afraid to go out alone.
“I just cry all the time. He’s ruined my life,” she stated in her victim personal statement read out in court.
She said the attack had severely affected her mental and physical health.
She was terrified of bumping into anyone who even looked like Davies.
Richard Woolfall said in mitigation that he had received 23 positive character references that spoke in glowing terms of Davies.
“A large number of people say it’s completely out of character for this defendant,” he said.
Davies had lost his job and he was experiencing his first taste of custody on remand in Leeds Prison.
Recorder David Gordon jailed him for a total of seven years and three months.
Describing Davies as abusive and violent, he said he enticed the woman into his flat.
He begged her to stay, tried to kiss her and became angry when she spurned his advances.
He raped her on his bed, hitting her really hard and slapping her as she wept.
Recorder Gordon said the jury had found Davies guilty following the woman’s persuasive account when she gave evidence in court.
She had fled the flat without shoes, partially dressed and screaming and crying.
He said Davies had “a Victorian attitude towards women.”
His victim had been terribly affected, no longer being bubbly and outgoing.
Davies must sign on the sex offender register indefinitely and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order was made to protect women from him in the future.
