A FORMER care home and community centre will be converted into supported living units after new plans were approved.
Listonsheils on Bierley Lane was the subject of a planning application by Wetherby based Spofforth Properties late last year, with the company revealing plans to convert the centre into residential care apartments.
Closure of the centre was announced in 2020 as part of a shake up of services for people with learning disabilities by Bradford Council.
The change would see more personalised services offered to the users of the service - with less focus on buildings and a move to community support.
Centres to close in planned shake-up of services
The application is to turn the vacant building into eight assisted living units. It said: "The proposals respect the existing building and its surroundings and return it from a vacant and disused building into specialist residential care apartments."
Planning officers said: "The use of an existing building for the provision of living units in a residential area is acceptable in principle, particularly from the point of view of sustainability."
One condition of the approval is that no trees on the site should be removed until a full landscaping plan for the site has been submitted to the Council.
