A drink of beer ended up costing a football fan a whopping £319.
Neil Roth, 41, was taken to court for possessing a drink container in a viewing area at a West Yorkshire football stadium.
Roth, of Victoria Avenue, Redcar, Cleveland, was fined £200 when he appeared at Kirklees Magistrates Court on January 13. He was also ordered to pay a £34 victim surcharge and court costs of £85 – bringing the total bill to £319.
The incident happened on November 27 last year during Huddersfield Town's 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough in the Championship at the John Smiths Stadium, Huddersfield.
Court documents revealed that Roth was said to have "had in your possession a disposable drink container, namely beer, during the period of a designated sporting event when you were in an area of a designated sports ground from which the event might be directly viewed."
His actions were deemed to be contrary to the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol) Act of 1985.
The defendant's guilty plea taken into account when imposing sentence.
