Much of Skipton has been left maroooned as heavy rained swelled the River Aire the Leeds-Liverpool canal.
Flood waters made most of the major roads out of town impassable.
And the main rail line services between Skipton and Morecambe and Carlisle and south to Keighley Leeds and Bradford were suspended.
The A65 was closed from Skipton to Long Preston and Keighley Road, Broughton Road and Grassington Road were only passable with care.
The Leeds-Liverpool canal overtopped at various locations along its length including near Bold Venture Street, Skipton, where cellars in nearby homes were flooded up to four feet.
A number of schools were hit, including Threshfield, which was closed, and some children were sent home from Gargrave Primary and South Craven at Cross Hills.
