A TRAIN operator is proposing a major shake-up of services on routes through West Yorkshire.

TransPennine Express (TPE) is now consulting on significant timetable changes that would be introduced in December 2022 – and passengers have until January 14 to have their say.

Currently, TPE operates services between Liverpool Lime Street - Scarborough and between Manchester Piccadilly - Hull.

However, the proposal is to swap these destinations, along with most of the calls made, so services would in future run between Liverpool Lime Street – Hull and between Manchester Piccadilly – Scarborough.

One gain from the changes would be to reduce the journey time from Hull to Liverpool by 25 minutes, compared with the similar journey today which has a change of trains at Huddersfield.

All services on both routes will continue to stop at Leeds and Huddersfield, but the service between Scarborough – Manchester Piccadilly with include additional calls at Slaithwaite, Marsden, Greenfield and Mossley during the morning and evening peaks, as per the current calls in service between Hull - Manchester Piccadilly.

TPE says these proposed changes have been developed through discussion with local authorities and Combined Authorities on the line of route, Transport for the North, Rail North Partnership and the Department for Transport.
