A £5 MILLION "solar farm" is one of the schemes Bradford Council is developing to tackle climate change.

The huge green energy project is likely to be located at the planned South Bradford Park and Ride development in Odsal, although any further details of the plans are scant.

The plans are mentioned in a report that was due to go before the Council's Regeneration and Environment Scrutiny Committee shortly before Christmas.

However, that meeting was postponed due to the Omicron surge.

A report titled Climate and Sustainability details the work being done in the District to improve the environment. Measures include spending £1,804,000 upgrading the Council's fleet of vehicles to electric or low carbon and planting a tree for every child in the District.

Calls for re-think over future location of South Bradford Park and Ride

It also reveals plans are underway to create a new, multi million pound solar farm - a collection of large solar panels that are used to generate electricity.

Although there are few details on the plan, the report says that £5m is currently "earmarked for Odsal Park and Ride Solar Farm" describing the scheme as "in development."

The Park and Ride is being funded through the Government's Transforming Cities Fund, and is likely to be built on a field next to Odsal Stadium.
