BRADFORD has been awarded more than £1.5 million in the Government's latest allocation of Homeless Prevention Grants funding.
For 2022/23, Bradford Council will receive a £1,494,965 grant, along with a further £43,606 in Domestic Abuse Burdens, for a total of £1,538,571.
The cash is a portion of the new £316m pot announced by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
It's to support households at risk of becoming homeless or who are homeless, with Bradford Council utilising the money to help people find a home, access support and secure temporary accommodation if needed.
The Domestic Abuse Burden will support people forced into homelessness due to domestic issues.
Edward Hughes MP, Minister for Rough Sleeping, said: “I have seen first-hand the devastation of those who come face to face with homelessness, and my heart goes out to anyone in this situation.
“The support we are announcing today is going directly to communities that need it most.
“It will help thousands of people across England, with councils able to prevent homelessness before it occurs and put a roof over the heads of those who have lost their homes.”
Jon Sparkes, chief executive of homelessness charity Crisis, added: “To end homelessness we need to prevent people being forced from their homes in the first place, so this funding for vital local authority services is very welcome.
“With the appalling rise in domestic abuse during lockdowns and the pandemic forcing many more into homelessness, it is especially important that councils in England will have more money to provide accommodation for survivors.”
Calderdale Council has received £404,846, Craven has got £81,793, Kirklees is getting £1,045,449, and Leeds will be handed £2,429,471.
