MORRISONS is set to launch the UK’s first vegan salmon and cream cheeze starter in time for Christmas.

The Bradford-based supermarket's spin on the classic features a bed of coconut based soft cheeze, basil marinated potatoes, leafy spinach, caper berries and sweet pepper pearls, topped off with delicate ribbons of vegan salmon.

The ‘salmon’ is created using thinly sliced carrot which has been smoked over wood chips, covered in sushi nori and salt and then cooked. It is then marinated in a dressing of rapeseed oil, cider vinegar, mirin and smoked paprika for four days to give it a traditional smoked salmon taste and texture.

Our Morrisons The Best No-Salmon and Cream Cheeze Starter comes in ready to serve pots and costs £5 for a pack of two.

Chris Strong, buying manager at Morrisons, said: “This Christmas we wanted to offer something for everyone.

"We know our customers want special festive products that they can put straight on the table on Christmas Day with minimal fuss, and so we did just that.

"Whether vegan or not, we hope our customers will enjoy it as much as we do.”

The starter will be available in Morrisons stores nationwide from Wednesday, December 22.
