Bradford's Renaissance Academy chess campaign is appealing for assistance to allow it to continue its work.
The Academy, which was founded 12 months ago, is aimed at introducing children from varied backgrounds to the game of chess as a positive mental exercise.
The academy visits deprived areas involving disadvantaged children in the game.
The results have been startling and the group now has 4,500 young people from eight to 24 years of age on its books.
The Academy has developed links links with Social Services, Young People's Support Groups, West Yorkshire Police as well as schools and groups.
But funding is required. Renaissance Academy founder Charles Wood said: "Sponsorship would allow us to get help for some of our chess coaches who currently do most of their work for the Grammar and independent schools."
