Pupils were on the cutting edge when they learned vital safety lessons.

The students from Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College visited Odsal fire station in Bradford to learn about the dangers of causing blazes, the benefits of team building, confidence boosting and career opportunities in the fire service.

They talked to firefighters, looked at the equipment that crews use and learned about how car-crash victims sometimes have to be cut out after accidents.

"The students love these experiences," said the college's Jeanette Ellerton who organises the sessions for students with colleague Michelle Clarke in conjunction with the Prince's Trust.

"They learn lots about things like the consequences of actions and how to work in team situations, and watch fire safety videos to teach them the dangers. The firefighters are wonderful with them. The pupils learn such a lot from the visits."
