Proposals for the transfer of Airedale Hospital's in-patient cancer services are still being drawn up.

Local health bosses have been re-thinking their proposals to transfer emergency out-of-hours cancer care to Bradford Royal Infirmary following a barrage of criticism.

This week, Matt Neligan, director of commissioning at Bradford and Airedale Teaching Primary Care Trust, said: "We have listened to people's concerns about our initial proposals and are developing a new care route.

"This takes into account the individual clinical and social circumstances of patients so that they receive the appropriate phone advice, face-to-face assessment or treatment, which may be at Airedale Hospital or Bradford Royal Infirmary.

"Wherever possible, we want patients to receive care close to home without having to travel long distances. Most importantly, the redesign of services is based on clinical need and can be delivered safely and reliably for patients."
