It will be strangely quiet in Bradford schools on Friday.

Students will be giving their teachers a welcome bit of hush as they take part in Macmillan Cancer Support's annual fundraising event for schools - The Big Hush, a sponsored silence.

Young people of all ages are getting involved from Laisterdyke Business and Enterprise College to Clayton Village Primary School.

Last year schools in and around Bradford raised more than £3,500 to help people affected by cancer and this year it is hoped to do even better.

The event comes at the end of the Macmillan's Cancertalk Week which aims to dispel the fear surrounding cancer.

Charlotte Stern, Macmillan's community fundraiser for the area said: "People may be surprised that we're asking children to raise money for a cancer charity, but cancer affects more than one in three of us so many local children will know someone living with cancer or may even have been diagnosed with cancer themselves."
