The new vicar of Thorpe Edge, Bradford, used to be a town planner.

The Reverend Stuart Darlinson gave up town planning for a change of career when he was 40 and became ordained.

He is coming from near RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire to take up his new post at the estate's St John's Church in April.

Mr Darlinson, who is now 58, said: "Thorpe Edge will be a very different type of ministry, but we are open to the challenge. There is potential there and that is why we are taking it on because we see an opportunity to reach out in that area."

He is married to Pamela and they have two adult children - Kate, who lives in Sheffield and Tom who will be nearby in Leeds.
