A WEST Yorkshire Police officer is due in court later this week charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.
Andrew Shaw, a Detective Constable based at Wakefield District, is alleged to have committed the offence on June 6.
The alleged incident took place off duty and the victim is a person known to Mr Shaw.
The 50-year-old was suspended from duty as soon as the investigation began.
DC Shaw will appear before Bradford Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
A West Yorkshire Police statement said: "Andrew Shaw, aged 50, a Detective Constable based at Wakefield District, is alleged to have committed the offence on June 6, 2021.
"The alleged incident took place off duty and the victim is a person known to Mr Shaw.
"DC Shaw was suspended from duty at the commencement of the investigation.
"He is due to appear before Bradford Magistrates’ Court on December 10."
