A BRADFORD primary school has once again asked students and parents to donate gifts and decorations to cheer up children who will be spending Christmas in hospital, instead of buying presents for members of staff.

This is the second year that Wilsden Primary School has made the appeal, with a note published on the school’s website asking parents to donate presents to CLIC Sargent – a charity which supports children with cancer and has a base at Leeds Children’s Hospital.

An Amazon wish list has been set up to give the parents and children some ideas, including pyjamas, toiletries, headphones, chocolate, and biscuits, along with fairy lights for the ward.

The school is also acting as a drop off point for anyone who would like to make a donation from across the wider community.

Liz Davidson, executive headteacher of Wilsden Primary School said: “Last year we asked that rather than sending staff presents we would be really pleased if families could donate a present to CLIC Sargent instead.

“It was a great success and thanks to their efforts hundreds of presents were donated to the charity, so children had something to play with and some cheerful decorations around the ward to help lift their spirits."

“Of course, the staff are always extremely grateful for the lovely gifts they receive, but we know that it means so much more to the children who are going to spend the holidays in hospital as a result of cancer."

Gifts will be delivered to the hospital on December 13.
