The mother of a missing Baildon man today made an emotional appeal to the public for help in finding her son.

Fighting back tears Philomena, the mother of 19-year-old Gavin Terry, made a heartfelt plea for her son's return.

Gavin, a student, disappeared early last Saturday after going out drinking with university friends in Leeds.

Mrs Terry told a press conference: "The last few days have been a nightmare. Gavin's disappearance has hit our family and his friends very hard. This is extremely out of character for Gavin as he has never been missing before. He has so much to look forward to that we are extremely concerned by his disappearance."

He was last seen in the Revolution nightclub in Call Lane, Leeds, at about midnight last Friday.

The keen sports fan had been due to play rugby for Bradford Salem at 2pm the following day but he never turned up.

Making a direct plea to her son, mother-of-two Mrs Terry of Luis Court, Baildon, said: "Gavin, we are really, really, really worried and if you are out there, please contact us, the police, anyone just get in touch and let us know where you are."

Police were today continuing their search of the River Aire and the surrounding buildings between Crown Point Bridge and Leeds Bridge in Leeds city centre.

The dangerous level of the swollen river means that police underwater search teams have been unable to enter the water but have instead been using camera probes which search the river bed.

Other officers have made a surface search from dinghies and the river banks.

Gavin was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with a pattern on the front, blue jeans and black shoes.

Police are asking for any businesses that may have CCTV that covers these areas or anyone with information to contact them on 0845 6060606.
