RESIDENTS and shopkeepers have expressed shock following the suspected murder of a woman in the Shearbridge area of Bradford.

Police and the ambulance service were called to Sherborne Road at 4.44am on Sunday to reports of a woman with serious injuries.

She died a short time later and a man was arrested.

Today while police forensic teams carried out their investigations, local residents expressed their shock about the incident.

Sherborne Road resident Muhammed Abid: "Yesterday morning everybody was quite shocked.

"It's a very peaceful and good area. There are a lot of people coming and going.

"It's a very close knit community because of all the Asian families.

"My family has lived here for many years and this is the first time they could recall anything like this happening."

Another Sherborne Road resident said: "I've never heard of anything like this happening around here. I'm very surprised.

"When I came back from work yesterday morning, there were four or five police cars on the street. I seen the cars there and I wondered what had happened.

"It's very shocking."

One Sherborne Road resident was "shocked" by the news and said the area is "normally ok".

"It's a bit shocking because things like this tend not to happen around here," said a worker at Food For Every Mood, a cafe across the street.

"There are a lot of students around here. It's a busy area.

"We've had a lot people come in and ask what's going on because the area has been cordoned off."

"It's obviously shocking," said Pooja Rani, who works at a nearby business. "It's the first time I've heard such sad news."

"We don't get many things like this happening around here," said Spring Place resident Mr Khan.

"It's embarrassing for the locals. It affects your neighbourhood. It makes life hard for everybody.

"I have concerns for everyone and whoever it is, it's a human life. A loss of life is a sad way to go.

"No-one heard anything which is quite concerning. It was something like this and we didn't know it happened."
