COUNCILLORS have approved an alcohol licence for a new venue on in Bradford city centre.
87 Westgate is the former home of the Northern Drum Centre, but is soon to be transformed into a business called Massey’s.
At a meeting of the Council’s Licensing Panel on Wednesday, members discussed a licence application to allow the sale of alcohol and the provision of entertainment at the unit.
The licence, requested by Dwight Dwayne Roberts, would be for the business to operate until 11pm on Sunday to Wednesday and 4am on Thursday to Saturday.
Mr Roberts, a chef, told the panel he had originally wanted to open a restaurant, but this business was his “plan B.”
It would include an off licence and area for people to chill, complete with a snooker table.
He said due to the units former use as a drum centre, it was already soundproofed.
Members were told that the business would not open late every week, but the licence would be used to host special events. He told the panel: “People from the Afro Caribbean community travel to Leeds or Manchester for events, we want to provide something in Bradford.”
The panel granted the licence.
