A CAT which suffered agonising chemical burns is in desperate need of a home, after several adoption plans fell through.
Jimmy came to Bradford Cat Watch Rescue with his paws and mouth covered in chemical burns. Since then he has been re-homed five times but sadly keeps being brought back.
“He’s our ‘boomerang cat’,” says Katie Lloyd, founder of the cat rescue centre, which specialises in caring for cats with injuries and disabilities.
“Jimmy has a loving and affectionate personality, despite his injuries. He came to us in July, arriving late one night with very sore paws. We weren’t sure if he had been in a road accident. We later established that his injuries had taken place several days previously and were more than likely accidental burns, possibly from jumping on something like an induction hob. His paws and pads were terribly painful and damaged.
“He was anesthetised, castrated and the team at Northcote vets spent around 40 minutes cleaning his sore paws up.
“He was here for 11 weeks, his paws and mouth covered in burns. He was fed with an esophageal feeding tube for weeks and his paws were dressed several times a day. He was also on antibiotics and strong pain relief.
“Jimmy triumphed over adversity but unfortunately, he has had five failed adoptions arranged. With three of those, Jimmy never even left the rescue centre. We thought we’d found his perfect home, but just before he was due to go to the placement, the arrangement broke down due to an unfortunate sequence of circumstances.
“For one adoption, he was there less than 24 hours but removed a bath panel and was brought back.
“He was traumatised and spent some time at the rescue, where we gave him unconditional love, care and compassion to build up his trust and confidence.
“Now Jimmy is now looking for his forever family. He is a sweet affectionate boy, about a year old, and would suit someone with a lot of patience.”
Adds Katie: “If you are thinking about adoption of any animal please ensure that this is a well thought out decision and that you and your family is fully prepared for the full responsibility that owning a pet involves.”
