On the evening of Friday November 12, and into the early hours of Saturday morning, Bradford District Police together with partner agencies, including Bradford Street Angels visited a number of licenced premises and patrolled the streets and roads in Bradford City Centre.
Using a combination of uniformed and plain-clothed officers, patrols will be carried out to identify any individuals who may be displaying signs of unacceptable behaviour such as sexual harassment, inappropriate touching, and loitering.
The initiative, formed through continued partnership working, focusses on ensuring safety of those visiting or residing in the Bradford area ahead of the Christmas season.
Increased high visibility patrols will run each weekend on Friday and Saturday nights, up until the 18 December 2021 alongside the Bradford Street Angels who will also be out on patrol in the City Centre.
Sergeant Matt Silcock, of Bradford City NPT, said:
“We are committed to ensuring the upmost safety of both the residents and visitors of Bradford, who wish to have an enjoyable and safe night out.
“We want to send a clear message that there is no place for any type of unwanted behaviour in Bradford, and it will not be tolerated.
“Our residents and visitors should not be subject to any form of sexual harassment, assault or unwanted attention during a night out in the City Centre or at any other time.
“The purpose of operations, such as this, is to identify, disrupt and prevent any criminal activity and to provide reassurance to residents of Bradford that we will always take a proactive approach to keeping people safe.”
Lorraine Betts Co-Chair of Bradford Street Angels said:
“We are really pleased that the Police are taking concerns seriously and are working with other agencies to keep everyone safe on a night out in our city.”
