Bingley Little Theatre's Five Blue Haired Ladies Sitting on a Green Park Bench
Bingley Arts Centre

"Five Blue Haired Ladies Sitting on a Green Park Bench" is a sentence which brings a smile to everyones face as they conjure up the scene.

It's a marvellous title for a wonderful comedy set in a New York park.

And Bingley Little Theatre's five leading ladies - all consummate actresses - were simply brilliant on the bench.

June Purdy, Marilyn Baines, Freda Denbigh, Pauline Warin and Rosie Banks played Eva, Anna, Gladys, La-La and Rose respectively. They were five very different characters sharing sad and happy memories and current eccentricities before their journey into the long good night.

They sounded like New Yorkers and all delivered some great one-liners in the play written by John A Penzotti. By the end, the audience was rocking to Frank Sinatra's New York, New York.

Directed by Robin Martin, who does a Hitchcock, and briefly appears as a mysterious stranger, the play runs until Saturday starting at 7.30pm at Bingley Arts Centre. Do go along for a "real swell" night out.
