An actress who put up a billboard of herself, in front of ITV studios to gain recognition from casting directors has had bounds of success as a result.

Mariama Bojang, 27, put up a giant picture of herself, with her contacted details outside ITV studios in Leeds to ensure she could not be ignored by casting directors any longer.

She has now been offered a role in a feature-length film and a part in a two-week theatre tour in Italy in December.

Mariama, who is autistic, and attends Matt Zina Acting school in Shipley was concerned that due to her condition, she was overlooked in the TV industry, and only given minor roles.

However, directors have now recognised her talent. After just a week of having her billboard up, she was contacted by a director and cast for a part in a new horror film called The Subordinate that is due to be filmed in 2022.

She said: “It happened quite rapidly, it took me by surprise. I’ll be a member of the main cast and playing a member of the forensics team called Molly.

“The director contacted me and said he saw my billboard and was very impressed with it.”

“ He said, I’d like you to self-tape for the role of a police officer, and I was shortlisted to the top twenty but I didn’t get that role, but he said he was so impressed with my acting ability that he would still like to offer me a role so would I like to be Molly, and I accepted.”

“I was very excited, I couldn’t stop smiling, I felt like I could leap for joy which of course I did, why not.”

Mariama has also been cast for a paid role in a theatre production that is travelling around schools in Italy during December.

Now, Mariama is running a similar media campaign at Media City in Manchester.

She said she has had casting directors contacting her via social media and it has been a “holy positive” experience.

Mariama said she has her “family to thank” as they paid for the campaign.
