Three Bradford filmmakers are hoping to make the big time after they were picked to produce short films for the international stage.

They have until summer to put together a ten-minute masterpiece shot in Yorkshire, before their work screened at film festivals throughout the world.

Dominic Leclerc, Prakash Patel and Sarah Senior, of Bradford, are hoping to catch the attention of industry giants after convincing regional film agency, Screen Yorkshire, to commission their movies.

Bradford University graduate Sarah, 26, works for film production company, Shoot Productions, in Glydegate, Bradford, and is working on This Way Up, a bittersweet, heart-warming tale about a boy who tries to post himself to heaven to be with his mother after she dies.

"It's a stepping-stone for us and not the traditional route in; you would usually have to start making the cups of tea."

Madani Younis, 29, an artistic director at Freedom Studios in Little Germany, Bradford, took part in the scheme last year.

He wrote and directed an animated documentary called Ellabellapumpanella, which follows the life of girl who struggled to find a rare bone marrow match. It went on to feature at the Cannes Film Festival.

He said: "The beauty of the scheme is that Screen Yorkshire is willing to take a risk, they see an idea as a concept and without their support Ella wouldn't have been possible.

"It is a great calling card as a young filmmaker and has made meeting with commissioners a lost easier. It can be a long process so its a great start when you can show a 10-minute film."

Tony Dixon, emerging talent manager at Screen Yorkshire, said: "We are delighted to be running the scheme once again, providing a fantastic opportunity for filmmakers to work together and have their films showcased to an international festival audience."
