Three people were charged last night with manslaughter in connection with the death of a man after a street attack.

Detectives named the victim as 31-year-old Kevin O'Brien yesterday.

He had been battling for his life in hospital since he was found in Oakworth Road, Keighley, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Three people, believed to be two men and a woman from the Keighley area, have each been charged with manslaughter, robbery and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. They were due to appear before Bradford Magistrates this morning.

Police were initially called to a report of an assault in the area at about 1.45am on Sunday.

Paramedics rushed Mr O'Brien to hospital where he was described as being in a critical condition. He died overnight on Monday. A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said yesterday: "A post-mortem revealed that he died of head injuries."

The area around the road where the incident is alleged to have taken place was cordoned off by police for most of Sunday. Officers carried out a fingertip search of the road in the hunt for clues and an underwater team was called in to search drains in the area.

On Sunday, residents living near the scene said they were "shocked" by what had happened.

Detectives, who believe he was the victim of a robbery, had earlier in the day said they were keen to speak to two people.

One key witness was a woman described as having blonde hair, who police said provided first aid to Mr O'Brien at the scene of the incident.

They also wanted to speak to a man who was driving a small, dark blue hatchback which was reported to have stopped at the scene.

They are continuing to appeal to anybody who may have been in the lower Oakworth Road area between 1.30am and 2am to contact investigating officers.

Anyone with any information is asked to telephone the incident room on (01274) 373635.
