Police in Bradford are appealing for information after thieves left a pensioner for dead after stealing his car.

A gang of three men targeted properties in Queen Street, Gomersal and managed to break into one residence and stole the keys to the car parked outside. The 68-year-old owner attempted to chase the men but they drove off in his car.

Seconds later it returned accompanied by another vehicle which struck the man causing him serious injuries before driving off.

A witness said: "Three lads tried the doors of a number of houses in the street and managed to gain access to this man's house and took his car keys. They must have driven round the block. There were two cars when they came back and one of them just drove straight at him and ran him over."

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "We were called to an incident at Queen Street, Gomersal in Cleckheaton at 2.06am on Sunday. Officers found a 68-year-old man had suffered serious injuries."

He was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital where his injuries were described as serious. The stolen car is a blue Skoda Fabia.

Witnesses should contact Det Insp Patrick O'Neill on 0845 6060606.
