A man was taken to hospital after a chip pan burst into flames in his Bierley home while he was asleep.
The man, who has not been named but is believed to be in his 40s, suffered smoke inhalation following the blaze in Shetcliffe Lane, off Tong Street.
He was taken by ambulance to Bradford Royal Infirmary.
Firefighters from Odsal were called when neighbours saw smoke coming from the house.
A fire service spokesman said there was no working smoke alarm in the downstairs of the house.
The spokesman said: "The man suffered smoke inhalation but this could have been a lot worse. It is very important that people have working smoke alarms in their homes to quickly alert them to any dangers from fire."
