SUPERMARKET giant Aldi is submitting new plans for a store in Keighley.
The company already has permission to build on the long-derelict East Parade site.
But this week the retailer revealed it was proposing a revised scheme, which will "very shortly" form part of a planning application to Bradford Council.
Aldi has pledged its continued commitment to delivering the £10 million new store at East Parade and says the fresh proposals involve "minor changes".
Approval was given in January this year by the council's regulatory and appeals committee for a new supermarket, to replace Aldi's current store in Gresley Road.
The proposal also included another large retail unit, a drive-through coffee shop and smaller shops.
Now the firm says it is seeking various alterations, including improved pedestrian linkages to the town centre, larger retail 'pods' and the repositioning within the site of the planned new store – which is proposed towards the west of the plot, in place of a retail unit.
The drive-through coffee shop would be unaffected.
Redevelopment of Keighley business park approved - and it could bring 250 jobs to the town centre
And vehicular access for customers into and out of the site will be via an existing modified point from Gresley Road, as in the previously-approved application.
An Aldi spokesperson said: "We remain committed to delivering a new store in Keighley and this new application will allow us to make some minor changes to the proposed layout of the wider retail park, following discussions with the other end users.
"This includes reworked and improved pedestrian linkages and connectivity with the town centre and larger retail pods along the site’s principal frontage following the revised location of the new, modern Aldi store. Importantly, the use of natural stone and glazing to ensure the proposals are contemporary – but also sympathetic to its surroundings – remains integral to our plans.
"Overall, our proposals represent significant investment and will safeguard and create local jobs – which is particularly welcome given the current difficult environment and the many challenges faced by the retail sector.
"The existing Aldi is too small to meet the modern operator requirements of Keighley and the experience customers now expect.
"This much-needed redevelopment will improve the range and choice of the retail offer within this area and lead to visual improvements, bringing a vacant site back into active use.
"The principle of the site’s redevelopment to include a new Aldi store is supported and already accepted by the council and the revisions to the scheme will ensure the delivery of this key redevelopment opportunity."
