FIRE chiefs are urging people to ensure they get their chimneys swept regularly, following an incident in Oakworth last night.
An accumulation of soot led to a chimney catching fire at a terraced house on Bridge Street.
Firefighters from Keighley Fire Station were called out at 10pm, and had to remove part of the chimney to deal with the fire.
They were at the scene for about two hours, although no injuries were reported.
An aerial appliance from Bradford Fire Station also attended, but due to sloping terrain, was unable to be used.
Watch commander Michael Rhodes, of Keighley Fire Station, said: "We would encourage people to make sure they get their chimneys swept at least once a year, ahead of autumn and winter.
"It's also advisable to get the chimney lined."
