IAN Ward, general manager at The Broadway completed a gruelling six-hour trek up Cadair Idris to raise money for the shopping centre's charity partner, Bradford Nightstop.

The trek saw Ian and a team of business associates take on the 893-metre mountain in Snowdonia National Park to raise funds as part of The Broadway’s annual commitment to a local charity.

Bradford Nightstop works to prevent youth homelessness and provides emergency accommodation.

Mr Ward said: “The Broadway is proud to support the incredible work conducted by Bradford Nightstop - the charity is a hugely valuable support system for the region’s most vulnerable.

“Whilst I was representing The Broadway, the team I walked with worked together throughout the six-hour trek to ensure everyone finished. It was a challenging trek with hot and dry conditions throughout, however it was immensely rewarding when we reached the peak which had miles of unspoiled and spectacular views. 

“I hope the funds raised can help Nightstop continue to support Bradford’s vulnerable young people particularly as we start to approach the colder months of the year.” 

Bradford Nightstop provides young homeless people with a safe place to stay until a longer term solution can be arranged.

Staying with trained and vetted volunteers, young people are offered a room of their own, transport, meals, basic essential supplies, washing facilities, and support to reach their next step.

Part of a national network in more than 30 locations, Bradford Nightstop has provided over 10,000 bed nights since 1993, preventing vulnerable young people from sleeping on the streets. 

Darren Starkey, chairperson at Bradford Nightstop, said: “We are really grateful for The Broadway’s continued support and are delighted with the money Ian has raised. Nightstop has not been able to fundraise for over 18 months due to Covid so every donation is precious to us.”  

Joy Rainbow, manager at Bradford Nightstop, added: “The money raised will make a huge difference to homeless young people in Bradford. Youth homelessness is an increasingly big issue in Bradford, but this funding will contribute to building a brighter future for those in need. 

“We are currently launching some new services to enable us to provide more emergency beds for homeless young people in the city centre. The Broadway’s inspirational commitment has come at just the right time to help us move forward.”
