HUNDREDS of nominations have been coming in for local charities to receive a share of the T&A’s £25,000 giveaway.

* Shipley Glen Tramway. Says Richard Freeman: "Shipley Glen Tramway is a 126-year-old heritage jewel run and maintained entirely by dedicated volunteers. It runs weekends and carried 27,000 passengers in 2019. The tramway is unique, a wonderful local attraction and needs financial support after Covid lockdown with no passenger income."
Says Eva Pointon: "I have ridden the tramway with my grandad more times than I can remember. We must make sure it is funded to continue to delight all who visit."
Says Robert Davidson: "The tramway is a key part of local heritage - a historic, much-loved reminder of the glory days of the Glen and all the attractions it held for visitors. The volunteers running the tramway deserve all the support they can attract. The tramway is also important to the local economy, bringing lots of visitors to the area."
Says Diane Metcalfe: "I volunteer on the tramway, the majority of volunteers are retired and over 70! I love working there just to see the generations in families coming back year after year, bringing grandchildren and great grandchildren. Their little faces are a joy as they excitedly wait for the trams."
Says Robert Hardy: This is one of the hidden gems that we have in this area. I am 73 and still using it - a grand total of 70 years. My children have been on it and I'm looking forward to introducing my grandchildren to it. This ride provides a delightful experience for young and old."
Says David Tillotson: “I am a railway/tramway photographer and have taken many parties from throughout the UK to the tramway during the past 25 years. They have always been fascinated at this historic tramway which is still operating after over 100 years, and is surely a massive piece of local history.”
Says Sarah Henley: “The volunteers all work tirelessly to keep a piece of local history up and running. My god-daughters love the tramway, it is magical to them.”
* Cliffhollins Riding School for the Disabled. Says Chelsea Gardner says: “Absolutely fantastic equine wellbeing centre. It allows participants with mental health issues, young people disengaged in education, everybody is welcome.
"The group allows people to complete an agility course to build a trusting bond with their horses. It also includes decision making, pushing their abilities to the limit, writing their thoughts in a confidential letter and posting it on horseback on the agility course. The Countryside Challenge course consists of 12 'obstacles' for riders to navigate.
It is a very positive, friendly place. The whole experience helps build confidence and teamwork, as some riders are led and need to trust the volunteer. This also gives hands-on therapy by helping focus mind and body, stimulating the senses and building communication skills and independence.
"After the year we have had, it is very important for young people to get out and be active."
* The T&A's parent company’s charitable arm, The Gannett Foundation, is giving £125,000 to charities nationwide and we have £25,000 for the Bradford district.

The T&A editor will select the eight most popular charities. Then readers can collect T&A tokens, with each token used to allocate cash to the nominated charity.

The top 8 charities selected for the vote will be contacted to provide additional information for entry into the readers’ vote; should this information not be provided within the timescale provided then the editorial panel will select an alternative charity. The charity must be registered with the Charities Commission and have not received a grant from the Gannett Foundation in the last two years.
