THERE is less than a week to go to nominate your favourite local charity for a share of the T&A’s £25,000 giveaway. See below for details of how to nominate.
Here are some more of the charities that readers have been nominating:
* Friends of Bradford Moor Park. Says Noreen Hussain: “Parents in the area could see there was no safe place for children to play as the park was attracting anti-social behaviour and rubbish was strewn about. They transformed the park by raising money then buying play and gym equipment then they put a bid in for funding for mental health sessions. They have karate and self defence for kids, fun days and lots more so everybody can enjoy a clean outdoor area.”
Says: Nuzhat Yousaf: “They have been working hard for over two years to get the park to its former glory, also supporting residents to improve their health, mind and wellbeing. They have so much in the pipeline but don’t have the funds. So many people of different ages and communities would benefit.”
Adds Andrew Wood: “Such a dedicated bunch of people, not afraid to get their hands dirty to restore the park and bring back some of it’s former splendour.”
* Bradford Teaching Hospital Charity. Says Suzanne Eastwood: “They did an excellent job when my son was born there, if it wasn’t for them he wouldn’t be here now.”
* Aireworth Dogs in Need. Says Nicola Garner: “They have been working tirelessly since 2014 to rehome unwanted and abandoned dogs in Keighley and Bradford. Any dog that comes in receives the care and attention they need, behavioural and health wise. The volunteers’ job is relentless and challenging yet they work with compassion. The demand to re-home dogs purchased during lockdown has sky rocketed. Many of these dogs have not been socialised and require behavioural assistance. This is causing a strain on funds.”
Says Claire Anderson: “Even though fundraising events were cancelled they managed to adapt, as well as changing how they work to do home checks so that once restrictions were lifted dogs could continue to be rehomed. Now they’re seeing an increase in dogs needing re-homing.”
Adds Shirley Patrick: “They go above and beyond to rehome dogs in our area. I wouldn’t be with my Bobby the Bulldog if it wasn’t for them.”
* Cats Protection Wes Yorkshire. Says Patricia Slater: “Sophie comes out to rescue unwanted and stray cats and kittens which are seen by a vet then go up for re-homing. They do a fantastic job. Sophie and the rest of Cats Protection are angels.”
* Our parent company’s charitable arm, The Gannett Foundation, is giving £125,000 to charities nationwide and we have £25,000 for the Bradford district.
