THERE is just one week to go to nominate your favourite charity for the T&A's £25,000 cash giveaway. See below for how to nominate.
Here's the latest of our profiles of nominated charities. If we haven't yet featured your charity - get nominating!
* Undercliffe Cemetery. Says Nick Holland: "Undercliffe Cemetery is the final resting place for so many important people, from former mayors and industrialists to rugby internationals, war heroes and the Bronte sisters' nurse. It tells the story of Bradford and a team of volunteers keeps it in great condition, as well as holding regular tours. A grant would help them through the winter. It really is a jewel in Bradford's crown."
Steve Lightfoot: "There are around 30 volunteers who maintain, promote and fund raise for Undercliffe Cemetery. In addition the Charity runs tours to inform the public about the rich heritage it has. I believe it rivals Cartwright Hall and Cliffe Castle in terms of importance to the district. There's only enough money to employ one part-time worker at the cemetery. Essential maintenance work takes up most of the funds, and things such as strimmer line, fuel for mowers and maintenance of equipment. The charity desperately needs more accommodation for volunteers to keep dry in adverse weather and get changed, and space is required to store tools and equipment.
"Over time the headstones can subside and maintenance and restoration work is as important as grass cutting and tree and hedge trimming of the 26-acre site."
Adds Stuart Hanson: "Undercliffe Cemetery contains the history of Bradford and many families. It documents the different ages of the city and is also architecturally unique. We need to protect it for future generations."
* Bradford Cat Watch Rescue. Says William Metcalf: "This charity rehabilitates and re-homes cats and kittens and provides 24-hour intensive care to critically ill and disabled cats. It runs entirely on volunteering and has been operating throughout the pandemic. Katie Lloyd and her team work tirelessly, no cat is a lost cause to them."
* Bradford Hospitals Charity. Says Denislav Ivanov: "Supporting our local hospital charity will directly impact patients and staff. This charity has already done such good work and continues to do so, such as the neo-natal appeal and Covid appeal."
* MHA Communities Bradford. Says Christopher Clarke: "I'm a local gas engineer in Bradford, during lockdown I volunteered at this scheme which supports older people to remain living independently and play an active part in community life. My role was to deliver food parcels, activities to older people told to stay in the house. On a weekly basis we were delivering 150 food parcels, I and other volunteers were making wellbeing calls to over 300 people a week.
"The small team of staff worked tirelessly to ensure they kept people upbeat and get the essential things they needed as well as keeping them in touch with each other."
* Keighley Cat Care: Says Kim Leadbitter: "They do so much good for the cats all around West and North Yorkshire."
* RSPCA Bradford, Halifax and Huddersfield branch. Says Billy Kendall: "I believe the RSPCA do a fantastic job, they rehabilitate animals that have been abused, not treated how they should, and then they find them loving homes."
