POLICE and fire crews were called out to a car on fire in the early hours of this morning, in what is believed to have been a "deliberate ignition".
Cleckheaton Fire Station got a call shortly before 1am after reports of a Mini Cooper "well-alight" on Upper Batley Lane, Birstall.
No one was in the car at the time, and no injuries were reported.
One fire engine from Cleckheaton was at the scene, as were the police.
A spokesperson from Cleckheaton Fire Station said: "We got a call at quarter to one in the morning regarding a single car on fire.
"We believe it to have been a deliberate ignition, and enquiries are ongoing with the police.
"According to eyewitnesses, they heard a loud bang and saw the car well-alight and on fire.
"We believe that this is an isolated incident, but we are keeping an eye on the situation.
"Our crews were at the scene for about an hour."
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 12.39am on Wednesday morning to a report of a car on fire on Upper Batley Lane in Birstall.
"A crime of arson has been recorded and enquiries are ongoing
