A NUMBER of bizarre characters, from a fiend to an evolved cockroach, have amused crowds in Bradford.
It’s a Mean Old Scene was held on Ivegate on Thursday and Friday, and saw a “cosmic portal” open on the City’s oldest street.
The arts event is one of several Summer Unlocked events to be held across the District over the Summer holidays as a push to get more people out and about after the easing of lockdown.
The public art event imagined that a otherworldly portal opened on Ivegate, from which emerged Eleanor Handcart, an escaped fiend on the run from Hell; Stovepipe Mary, a music hall act from the 1890’s; Amos, a giant rat and Stenson, Amos’s cockroach sidekick from the year 20202021.
Free concert in Harold Park, Low Moor on Saturday
The event also saw copies of Bradford’s radical broadsheet ‘The Magpie’ handed out to passers by.
It’s A Mean Old Scene is an audio drama by Eleanor Barrett, currently in development. The Ivegate event gave the characters a chance to come to life.
Summer Unlocked events continue over the coming weeks.
