A MAN has been jailed for three years for a string of offences including stealing five quad bikes worth a total of £14,600.

Adam Coleman would “test drive” bikes that were on the market and disappear off on them, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Graham O’Sullivan said Coleman, 36, of Mary Street Caravan Site in Laisterdyke, Bradford, stole them between June and August last year.

When he saw them advertised for sale around the country, he contacted the owners with a false name and asked them to bring the machines to Bradford for a test drive.

He would then steal them, Mr O’Sullivan said.

He was caught after he was identified on social media and  he went on to plead guilty to five offences of theft.

Coleman also admitted an offence of witness intimidation on September 23 last year and burgling a handbag and keys from Home Bargains at Bradford’s Forster Square Retail Park on October 22, 2020.

Mr O’Sullivan said he took the bag at 5.40pm after an employee left it unattended.

He drove her VW Passat away and it was recovered from the caravan site where he was living.

Four days later, he was driving a Nissan in the York area after midnight when he was spotted by the police.

He drove the wrong way down the A64 narrowly missing a van and was stopped by a stinger device.

Coleman admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and over the limit for cannabis.

He was remanded in custody in HMP Leeds when he was sentenced by Judge David Hatton QC on a video link to the courtroom.

The court heard that Coleman had 22 previous convictions for 81 offences, including burglary, robbery and theft.
