A NEW community hub in Wrose has been officially opened by Bradford Council leader, Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe.

Age UK Bradford District officially opened its new Community Hub for Shipley & Bingley in Wrose today.

This is part of ‘Connections 21’, a campaign to raise awareness as well as funds for the charity so that they can continue to connect older people to the information, help and support, advice and activities that they need to live their best life.

Cllr Hinchcliffe, who also represents the Windhill and Wrose ward, said: “After the last couple of years when we’ve all been isolated at home, having a community hub like this in the heart of Wrose is exactly what we need.

“Age UK Bradford District do great work across the district and I’m delighted to be helping them officially launch the hub.

“I’d encourage all older residents of Wrose to engage so that they can say what services they’d like to see in the area.”

The charity also invited local organisations and people with an interest in supporting their work with older people to the opening event.

Their goal is to build community connections that create and reinforce positive relationships and lifestyles developing age friendly communities across the Bradford district.

During the campaign, staff and volunteers at the charity will be hoping to raise awareness of community engagement opportunities by sharing information on how to get involved to support the charity’s work.

Mark Rounding, Chief Executive of Age UK Bradford District, said: “This event focused on the importance of community engagement to the charity.

“Understanding what older people in the different communities across the district want to help them live their best lives is central to the way we shape our work.

“We'll be running community conversations later in the year and will be listening to older people which will help us understand how we can engage and work with them to achieve the goals they want."
